Trip to Jinyan Park

Trip to Jinyan Park

Gentle Reader,

Several members of Scott's class took us to a beautiful park in JinYan, which is where we taught back in 2011.  The growth in JinYan, a city the government decided to create, has been astounding.  This park, with a lake, did not even exist three years ago.  Now, it is a lovely oasis of greenery, sculpture, and peaceful waters.  A very hot day, so we walked a great deal of the park and then took a tram for the second half.

As in many places we visited, there are sculptures here to depict the years of the Chinese Zodiac.  I was born in 1959, the Year of the Pig/Boar.   Scott was born in the Year of the Rooster.

The Chinese create phenomenal nature spaces, with both clarity and gentleness.  They always design meeting/gathering spaces within the natural space, being very attuned to the human desire to meet and congregate and socialize.

We found some sculptures devoted to Taichi, which Scott played with a bit.

Love the sign posted near the grasses:  "Please take pity on swaying grass."

There were also signs posted, reminding people not to climb on the sculptures.  Of course, children love to crawl all over the sculptures.  The police appeared rather quickly as one young man mounted the dragon sculpture.

Special thanks to Scott's students for giving us the gift of this lovely afternoon...

Namaste,
Marianne/Bailing
